Mila Strugatsy Splinters of Civilization
Strugatsky, a native of Soviet Russia, recently moved to the valley from New Jersey. This will be the artist’s first exhibition in downtown Phoenix displaying her unique mixture of traditional imagery and contemporary techniques, realism and abstraction. Splinters is a body of work that pulls from the past and the shared memory of humans and re-frames it in a contemporary setting that envisions the future, calling to the eternity of our spirit. Strugatsky will include a multimedia installation, which serves as a statement on her view of arts funding and political focus in the US, accompanied by an installation by Ben Kern that calls attention to the lack of funding and support arts organizations receive from the government.
Through Each Others Eyes and Central High students worked together to create a unique exhibition of aspiring photographers on display in the monOrchid gallery May 14-18.

Summer Group Exhibition: Thermal PHX
The title for this exhibition comes from my memories of learning from my parents, both hanglider pilots, about how to fly using heat bubbles, or “thermals” that rise from the desert floor to take a kite or bird higher into the sky. The concept is much like that of a hot air balloon; heat rises and any thing that can catch that movement can climb with it. This exhibition is meant to be a “thermal” for emerging local artists, to help them elevate their work by providing them an exhibition opportunity in a major art space during our long, hot summer here in Phoenix. It also serves the purpose of providing a space for people who actually live here year round to visit and get out of their home or office and enjoy a night of culture! – Justin Germain, monOrchid curator
